When I started this journey
I questioned myself. Who am I other than
a mother to three beautiful, creative children?
Who am I other than an only daughter to
a strong, supportive mother? Who am I other
than big sister to two brothers? Who am
I other than a friend to women, lover of
men? I am a hard working state employee
and part-time student?
When I entered this organization, this family
of sisterhood, I was questioning myself.
Who am I, really? I know what I do and I
know what I am to others, but who am I truly?
I didn’t know. I had lost myself and my
desires to just giving, giving and just
doing. I was just existing, but not living.
As I moved through this journey of sisterhood,
I began to discover myself whom I had lost
while being all the things I was expected
to be…mother, daughter, sister, lover and
friend. We all have been told, “don’t lose
yourself in your relationships, don’t lose
yourself in your children, you cant live
your life through others…but I did lose
myself, so long ago I forgot what I wanted
for myself in life, what I desired.
Is it possible to have anything for yourself
yet not be selfish? Can you live life to
the fullest and not neglect your love ones?
Can you give and receive love, equally?
Can you be there for others without neglecting
yourself?
You can, only through self fulfillment,
gratification and satisfaction can you continue
to be charitable. It’s ok to be happy, have
fun, and enjoy life while being responsible,
committed and caring. I have found that
balance through this wonderful journey of
sisterhood. I have found sisters I have
never known, ambitions that have laid dormant,
desires that I now know it’s ok to acknowledge.
I have found acceptance. A full balanced
life is the answer to my longing questions,
yes it is possible. And with the love and
support of like minded women, going through
the same struggles, trials and tribulations,
encouraging and supporting each other, uplifting
and motivating your dreams and desires….it
is all possible, it is tangible, it is all
mine. Watch me now do all the things that
were expected while doing all the things
that I desire. Watch me now serve my community,
love my children and myself. Watch me now
and forever… for I am receiving as much
as I give and have more to give cause I
am being filled, finally I have a full balance
life. Watch me, be me, Charity.
